Mary is a family-oriented dentist who enjoys treating patients of all ages. With over 20 years of clinical experience, she has worked in India, Scotland and England, caring for patients from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.

Mary has been a valued member of the John Street Dental Team in Sunderland since 2017. Known for her calm, gentle, and reassuring manner, she takes pride in ensuring that every patient feels relaxed, listened to, and confident in their treatment. She is passionate about delivering high-quality dentistry in a friendly and supportive environment and finds great professional satisfaction in improving her patient’s oral health while building long-standing relationships.

Training & experience

Mary graduated with Merit in both clinical and academic dentistry from The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University in 2003. She further developed her professional expertise by obtaining the MFDS qualification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and completing the Six Month Smiles short-term orthodontics programme. The breadth of her training and experience enables her to provide high-quality care to patients in both India and the UK.

Alongside her Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree, Mary holds MFDS qualification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and has also been trained in the Six Month Smiles short-term orthodontic programme.

Knowledge & skills

She enjoys all aspects of general dentistry and presented papers on a variety of topics at dental conferences during her training. Actively involved in teaching dental assistants and technicians throughout her career, Mary continues to support Trainee Dental Nurses in their education and professional development. She is passionate about sharing her knowledge and empowering junior team members, contributing to a confident, effective, and well-supported dental team.

Awards & charities

Academically strong, Mary was the University Topper in Human Oral Anatomy, Physiology, Histology, and Tooth Morphology. She also served as President of the Junior Doctors’ Forum during dental school and was a School Pupil Leader in her final year of high school. While working in India, as part of her centre’s Community Support Services, she was instrumental in organising outreach dental camps in remote villages and schools.

outside of work

Outside of work, Mary enjoys spending time with her family, travelling, and exploring new places, food, and cultures. Having actively participated in sporting events during her school and university years — with athletics as her main interest — she continues to enjoy exercising. Her hobbies also include reading, cooking (particularly experimenting with new recipes) and listening to classical music.
