What are fissure sealants?
Fissure sealants are a protective covering applied to the chewing surfaces of molar teeth, where the deep dental fissures are most likely to trap food and bacteria. These grooves can be difficult to clean effectively, even with good brushing habits.
The special coating covers these grooves and hardens to create a smooth surface that is easier to keep clean and far less prone to decay. The treatment is quick, painless and requires no drilling or injections.
Fissure sealants can be applied for children as soon as their adult molars appear.
