What to do
in the event of a dental emergency
If dental pain or injury strikes, try to stay calm and contact us as soon as possible. The sooner you get in touch, the sooner we can help.
Private patients: Call your preferred practice directly. We will do everything we can to see you the same day. For our John Street clinic, please call 0191 5672604, and for our Fulwell clinic, please call 0191 5483822. We will do all we can to see you on the same day.
NHS patients: We offer emergency appointments through our NHS Urgent Dental Access Centre (UDAC). Visit our NHS urgent care page to access the online booking system. For NHS emergencies outside of practice opening times, please call NHS 111.
What constitutes
a dental emergency

How quickly can I be seen for a dental emergency?
We aim to offer same-day appointments for dental emergencies during practice opening hours. If you call us as early as possible, we will do everything we can to see you that day. For NHS patients, appointments are available through our Urgent Dental Access Centre (UDAC). Please visit our NHS Urgent Care page for booking details.
How much does an emergency dental appointment cost?
Private emergency appointments start from £60. The total cost will depend on the treatment required: our team will always explain any costs clearly before proceeding. NHS patients seen through our UDAC service are charged at standard NHS Band rates. If you’re unsure what applies to you, call us and we’ll talk you through your options.
What should I do if my tooth is knocked out?
What if I need emergency dental care outside of opening hours?
Can I be seen as an NHS patient in an emergency?
Yes. We offer emergency dental care for NHS patients through our NHS Urgent Dental Access Centre (UDAC). Please visit our NHS Urgent Care page to use the online booking system. You do not need to be a registered NHS patient at our practice to access UDAC services.
Will I need follow-up treatment after my emergency appointment?
In many cases, yes. Emergency appointments are focused on relieving pain and stabilising your tooth. Depending on the issue, such as a cracked tooth, lost filling, or infection, you may need a follow-up appointment for a more permanent solution. Our team will give you clear guidance at your emergency visit and help you plan any further treatment needed.
Is emergency dental treatment available for nervous patients?
Absolutely. We regularly treat patients who feel anxious about dental visits, and we take extra care to make sure you feel as comfortable as possible. Our team will take things at your pace, explain everything clearly, and ensure you’re at ease throughout your emergency appointment. If you’re particularly anxious, let us know when you call and we’ll make sure the right support is in place.
